The Journey #7: What if I fail? Give up?
Isn't this all about the journey? That's ok to fail, team. Instead, focus on progress over success.
This post takes ~ 3min to read
Hey team! 👋
We are back with one more growth tip. This time to talk about something that is not normal, especially among sports. We mostly see stories of success, big accomplishments but…what if, during our daily routine, a race, a training something goes wrong?
🤔 YOUR THOUGHTS
"I have practiced a lot, put enough miles for this challenge. I am ready. What can go wrong?"
😬 REALITY
➡️ Every time you have a setback during your day, remember, your race plan won't go also along with your plans.
For those of you who know "Murphy's Law", you know that Anything that can go wrong will go wrong. Let's now think about a race where the only thing we know is: how long is it, the location of aid stations, the highs and lows of the trails, and the location of the finish line (that’s it!). Some of you, if you have friends supporting you, can also make a plan of what to eat and drink at some specific points of the race.
QUESTION:
Do we have enough elements playing in our favor to make us feel that we have everything under control?
ANSWER: Personally, I believe not. Why?
Why?
1- You vs You: We are humans, so we cannot control 100% how our body and mind will react. You can eat well, sleep, rest, meditate and still, your body can "decide" to not respond as you expected. And you will also need to count on our "best friend and supporter", mind who will start to say and question incredible things like why we are even here?
2- You vs Nature: if there is also something that we cannot control is, nature: weather, terrain, temperature, elements that we can't manipulate.
👟 TAKE ACTION
So, if something goes wrong, let's be simple and say: that's ok team! Accept it and...
Positivity: be positive. You started, you showed up, and "to fail" is part of the process. Forgive yourself. You will for sure come up stronger, believe me.
Progress over success: celebrate the small wins you have throughout your journey. Instead of focusing on the biggest achievements, every small victory, small progress must be celebrated.
Vision: when we talk about the process, we talk about your intentions, the famous why or purpose that plays an important role in bad moments every time you have an excuse. It is your anchor.
Train for Life, not for a race: a race is just a small moment of a long journey. If by running you seek to be the best version of yourself, if we always succeed, we don't know where our limits are. So, next time, think about this: here's another opportunity to give my best, explore the unknown, and get to know myself better.
In the end, the most important thing is: trust the process and trust yourself. Try to have a clear vision, mission, purpose and every time you put your shoes on, just guarantee that you do your best.
Are you inspired enough?
Go...we got your back!
