The Journey #13: What's your why?
Some do it for the competition. Others do it for all the benefits of running in the mountains. Whether in terms of athletic performance or personal life.
Hey Team!
We are back with one more article. This time to talk about a buzzword, purpose.
Yesterday, while searching the internet and after reading some articles, a question came to me:
Why is running in the mountains so amazing?
This made me stop, think, pick up my cell phone and write the text below.
I am sharing my purpose, the "why" that led me to create this project. In the end, of course, I would like to know your purpose. What makes you want to put on your running shoes and go running on the trails?
Why do I run?
It is not for the competition. It is not to be the fastest.
Not even to cross first the finish line.
Wait. Of course it is to cross the finish line. Or rather, try to achieve a goal.
Running makes me be. Be what I am today. And it is clearly a needle of a compass that helps guide me in my purpose, whether personal or professional.
It makes me be. It made me grow.
That is why I see running as a transformational tool. Through which I became stronger, more resilient, more courageous.
Calm and persistent. Patient. Motivated and a happy kid.
At the same time, as an individual sport, it allows me to be part of a group, of a community. Meet inspiring people, with stories to tell and who, like me, just want to achieve a goal.
This goal is just one step of a longer journey.
My purpose? To run.
Knowing that with every step I take, I have more passion and will to live.
Every time I am in the mountains is a lesson. Where I often win, sometimes I lose. But, I always learn.
So my purpose is to run. To be able to run.
That's why I decided to create The Journey Endurance Club, in order to be able to give back, with a lot of drive and creativity, everything that this sport has given me.
To be together with my fellow trail runners. Being able to learn from them and be inspired. Be able to challenge and be challenged. Contribute for this sport to gain more visibility. To be fairer, more diverse and more accessible.
Yes, because this is a transformational sport that needs transformation.
And, more than a sport, it is a way of life. A sport in which, whether we cross the finish line or not, we win every day.
Would love to know: what is your why? Why do you run?
