The Journey Story #1: Work the Weakness Into a Strength
From the testimony of our community member, Dylan Scott, we have the opportunity to know why it is important to work on our weaknesses.
From the testimony of our community member, Dylan Scott and after having tried the world record for the highest number of burpees in an hour, we have the opportunity to know why it is important to work on weaknesses.
It was around 600 repetitions that the realization set in that I had found my weakness. My shoulders couldn’t hold the pace.
I had forgotten to work my weakness, so it began working me.
This was a moment in my mind that occurred a few weeks ago during my first attempt to break the world record for the most chest to ground burpees in an hour. I assumed that I was prepared based on workouts leading up to attempt but had been unaware that I was neglecting high rep and high load upper body push workouts to the extent that would be necessary for that day.
It is important to have those moments where you identify a deficiency in your skillset. What is not okay is to fail to learn from it and not work the new found weaknesses. It does not mean that this has to become your focal point for all of your training but, it does mean that it needs to be moved up the list of priorities to help you achieve your goals.
This is the goal when working our weaknesses. To bring up our lower skills to a higher level inorder to create a more well rounded athlete, and ultimately, a more well rounded human as we progress on our journey.
With this in mind, identify one weakness you have and devise a plan to strengthen it. Why not share with us by leaving a comment?
